It is important to note that Dr. Crigler was not the first Black student to attend the college but the first Black student to graduate. This page is dedicated to Ben Settles, who matriculated into the college along with Dr. Crigler but did not graduate in 1956, his expected graduation year. As we honor Dr. Crigler, we must also acknowledge Ben Settles.
