Sunday Bulletin from Bethlehem Baptist Church
This is a virtual version of the Sunday Bulletin from April 28th, 2024, that congregation members received in person. This specific bulletin, in its entirety, outlines the plans for each worship service, highlights the service of Reverend Charles W. Quann, and provides announcements for upcoming events the congregation should be aware of. At the end of the bulletin are two lists of members of the congregation, the first mentions members of the church that the congregation should keep in their prayers. The second list, titled Remember the Incarcerated, catalogs members of the church that are currently imprisoned at prisons throughout Montgomery County, mostly at State Correctional Institute Phoenix. This list is read aloud at the end of each service so that the congregation can give some voice to those that are imprisoned inside a justice system that often ignores and silences their voice. Mayor Riggins states that this list, and saying these names at the end of each service, are vitally “important because oftentimes these people become invisible or forgotten. Out of a sense of shame, we don’t mention them.” This structure ensures that once your name enters a prison registry it becomes a voice with no rights or power to its narrative.
