                <text>“Focus: Nate Dupree Can a Black Man Find Happiness at Ursinus? Well…” is an interview written by Richard Whaley and published November 7, 1974 Ursinus Weekly. In the interview Dupree mentions that he would like to add a Black studies program and black administrators/professors to Ursinus college. While Dupree does not expect the school to implement such programs due to their cost, he believes the school might change if there is pressure from the government. The courses, or lack thereof, may even be the reason why students transfer out of the college. However, the lack of black students, and other minority students, is shocking to Dupree; who has moved from Philadelphia to Ursinus in pursuit of his political science degree. As the college seeks to diversify itself through other means (i.e. bringing in foreign students according to Dupree) the desire to have more inclusive curriculum can be traced as far back as the 1970s.</text>

He questioned her opinions on different topics, one of which being what is felt like to be black on campus. Clark responded by saying that she was proud to be a black student on campus and that she had yet to deal with any bigotry from other students. However, she did speak on the fact that she believed that there should be a black literature course on campus or even black literature as apart of a general literature course. She believed that just because students hadn’t previously been introduced to any courses created around black history that shouldn't mean there couldn’t be any formed.&#13;

                <text>On May 23, 1968, Linda Richtmyre writes in The Ursinus Weekly&#13;
 illustrating the necessity to actively acknowledge and the act of seeking after "the prospect of inclusion of any Negro girls in the next freshman class." There were difficulties seeking out such inclusion through Office of Admission. The financial aid offices of bigger universities would often offer financial grants to promote their diversity, which raised concern to students at Ursinus. The author made apparent of the difficult situation Ursinus and its students try attracting a very marginalized group of people in America: black and female. There was a concern in how the students could "recruit" black women to Ursinus.</text>

The lists contain information on the school's fields of study, activities, student demographics, scholarships, and financial aid, among others. It also lists the names of the two Minority Student Advisers at the time: Ms. Jenneen A. Flamer and Mr. Anthony D.J. Brankar. The brochure was created in 1989 during President Richter's focus on recruitment and retention of students of color, and begins with the statement that Ursinus was founded 125 years ago with a provision in its Constitution that "no student shall be excluded on account of race or religion." </text>

While exact date of creation and author are unclear, the sources were found in Richard P. Richter's 1988-1990 Minorities files, giving us a general approximation. The concerns of these students at the time include noticing obvious socioeconomic differences between themselves and other students, struggling to succeed academically during their first semester, and feeling limited to “other (Black/Hispanic) students” for social purposes. Suggestions for the following year include working to increase minority representation in the student body, a follow up to the Bridge Program beyond a student’s first year, a statement of sensitivity from the President or a Dean to aid student adjustments and differences, a scholarship targeted towards students of color, and a specific student recruiter focused on students of color. This last suggestion coincides with similar suggestions from others for new full-time roles, which President Richter seemed resistant to in previous memos.</text>
