Fraternity Pledging Marred by Bad Reports, 1981
Student, faculty, and administration perspectives on pledging fraternities in 1981.
Students pledging fraternities feel that professors look upon them negatively, because of the stigma attached to fraternities. The faculty complain that pledges fall asleep during classes frequently and are subjected to "degrading" behavior. Housekeepers have also reported suspicious activity including excess mud and garbage in the basements of dormitories, beer bottles and broken glass have been found near Patterson field. All of these actions are prohibited throughout the fraternal pledging process. There have also been police incidence with pledges being caught stealing items from other fraternities, sororities, and noise complaints. Dean Rebuck states that every single fraternity has been reported for suspicious activities with the exception of two organizations.

Where were the "Concerned" Faculty?
A faculty and student open discussion regarding pledging's harm on student's academic performance.
A student who attended an open discussion about pledging's harmful affect on academic performance. The student was shocked to only see that four professors attended the discussion and that one had no concept of what pledging entailed. The open discussion was a response to faculty concern regarding pledging and poor academic performance from pledges.
