Students were instrumental in the creation of this event as this was prior to the arrival of Drs Edward Onaci and Patricia Lott. Wells: A Passion for Justice” was a film screening one presented by the African American Africana Studies on March 13, 2012 in Pfahler Auditorium. This was a transitional time for the program as the most recent coordinator of the program, Dr. Walter Greason, recently left and the Dr. Nzadi Keita assumed the role. The film focused on Ida B. Well, a female investigative journalist who documented and exposed the horrors of lynching in the south in the 1890s and was one of the founders of the NAACP. Following the film, a discussion of Wells extensive activism including women’s rights and suffrage was held. This was one of the firsts events held by the program.
